Throughout October, Together for Sutton were busy working with lots of Sutton based charities and services to ensure we had an action packed programme to open up conversations about money this year for Talk Money Week where we invited everyone to #DoOneThingSutton, and #DoOneThingSutton we sure did!
With the biggest Talk Money Week 2024 campaign in the whole of the UK, Together for Sutton worked with Money Helper and managed to help over 250 individuals throughout the week. Potentially 250 lives changed! 250 families supported!!
When breaking down a campaign like this, you can really see the impact it has on people’s lives! Our residents of Sutton!
And not only did we start the conversation, we’re keeping it going because we believe that carefully managing our finances can prevent some of the stresses we are now seeing in society. The impact money has on our lives is daily! Do we have enough money for food, can we afford our bills, can we afford our children’s school uniform?? Our worries are endless! But we want to change that narrative! What can we do differently to be in a better financial position? Can we save in a different way? Use cash rather than card? The answer is “Yes” and we hope to be able to help even more with this in 2025 when we kick off new collaborative working with our Sutton partners.
Now this could be to think about saving differently, from saving for Christmas, to School Savers. The choice is yours and we have lots of services who can help with this, for example, this Talk Money Week we partnered up with CroydonPlus to explore all of their savings products which can help with your everyday planning, it just makes sense to save for a rainy day!! Why not take a look here at all of their savings products.
It may be that you want to talk about money with younger people, and this takes a whole different approach! There are lots of tools out there to help you with this, but why not take a look at Money Helper to start with.

Talk Money Week 2024 was an opportunity for everyone to get involved in our week of events and activities. It was an opportunity to start the conversation. To start thinking about money in a different way.
On Wednesday 6th November, one of Together for Sutton’s proud partners, Advocacy for All, invited all of their members of Speak Up Sutton and Action Voices to have a Bigger Voice and join in the conversation over Pizza, Fizz & Bizz!
It was another great event with 11 group members, five new guests, four professionals and four supported living staff. A full house!
Talk Money Week is an opportunity for everyone to get involved in the conversation about money, but sometimes this can be difficult if we assume everyone has the same level of understanding as each other. Sometimes, we need to break things down a little more to make it more understandable, and working with Easy Read is one way to do this.
Our members of our SEND participation groups are used to working with Easy Read, but not all of our local organisations and service may be familiar with this accessible format.
Easy Read UK helps organisations and businesses to make their information more accessible for people who find it hard to read standard written leaflets and information. Why is this important? Because all information should be accessible to everyone by law! Then factor in money and finances?! Why not take a look at Advocacy for All’s presentation slides here for a better example of what Easy Read looks like.
And so at our Talk Money Week Pizza, Fizz & Bizz, we explored what the team thought should be done to help people with learning disabilities through the cost of living crisis, and so many great ideas were discussed.
So if you find yourself needing help with money? Why not take a look at the Money Helper tool here in your own time, the tools available are suitable for everyone.
Why not #doonethingsutton and join in the money conversation today!
